Andrew Hitt, Michael Best Strategies partner and chief operating officer, recently participated in a panel discussion on the state and federal judicial selection process at the Inaugural Wisconsin Lawyers Chapters Conference. The conference was held at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.
Panel participants covered an in-depth look at the many characteristics relating to judicial appointments in Wisconsin and at the federal level, specifically relating to the philosophies of the governor’s and president’s selection methods. The panelists discussed the types of individuals that executives look for in judicial nominees, their methods for selecting the nominees, and potential reforms to the selection process at the federal level.
Hitt, chairman of the Governor’s Judicial Selection Advisory Committee, was joined by Katie Ignatowski, chief legal counsel to the Office of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker; Ryan Owens, professor of political science and affiliated faculty at the University of Wisconsin Law School; and Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director of the Judicial Crisis Network.
