As a senior advisor with Michael Best Strategies, Ross leads government relations efforts in Utah and other western states, and assists companies in collaborating with Strategies’ team in Washington, D.C. to understand and shape federal policy. He works with clients to build and execute effective government relations strategies, including lobbying the Utah legislature and working with regulatory agencies and the Governor’s Office on issues relevant to clients.
Ross brings a wealth of first-hand legislative experience to his role with Michael Best Strategies. Following two years in the Utah House of Representatives, Ross was selected to the State Senate in 2006, and reelected in 2010. During his time in office, Ross became known for his strong interest and dedication to education, the environment, equality, and effective government practices. He was elected Senate Minority Whip in 2008, and in 2010 he was elected Senate Minority Leader. He also served on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Committee of Revenue and Tax.
Most recently, Ross was a Vice President in the Community Development Group for Zions Bank. In that role, he assisted local and state government and corporate accounts with banking and business operation needs, working with elected and appointed officials in Utah and Idaho, and advocated with Utah’s U.S. Congressional members.
Previously, he was a shareholder with full service law firm in Salt Lake City, where he focused his practice on commercial litigation, labor and employment, and government relations matters. He represented clients in both state and federal courts as trial counsel, and engaged in extensive pleadings practice.
