1,087,200 people selected a health plan on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (www.healthcare.gov). Down 3.5% from the prior year’s enrollment period. Of the 205,100 enrollees: 28.8% were new customers 71.2% were returning customers. Returning customers switched health plans at a rate of 49.5% Returning customers were nearly 3 times more likely to actively shop and re-enroll than to simply let their old plan automatically renew. The Open Enrollment Period at healthcare.gov ran from November 1st to December 15th.

Nationally, over 11.4 million Americans selected a health plan for coverage beginning January 1, 2019.

Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released enrollment data by state, county, and zip code.

We put together a snapshot of how Texas customers behaved during the enrollment period.

Texas Health Marketplace Overview: Average monthly premium in Texas before subsidy deduction: $544. Average monthly premium in Texas after subsidy deduction: $118. 92.3% of Texas shoppers chose either a Bronze or Silver health plan. About half of all enrollment took place in the last week of the enrollment period.
